Duties & Responsibilities
- Role
- To strategically manage the procurement activities and supplier relationships to optimise the value and performance in the acquisition of goods and services for the organisation.
- Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure assigned purchase orders are processed with proper terms & conditions and within the company’s policy & procedures.
- Maintain procurement documentation for audits and internal reviews.
- Ensure all financial controls are in line with audit standards.
- Ensure that the company meets its BBBEE spend targets
- Procurement Operations
- Responsible to the Procurement Manager for the procurement of products, services, supplies and/or equipment in line with business requirements within minimum lead times
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to ensure cost-effective procurement in conjunction with the Procurement Manager.
- Stay up to date on market trends, commodity pricing, and supply chain disruptions.
- Process purchase orders and maintain accurate records of transactions.
- Work closely with with the Procurement Manager to develop and investigate new sources of supply, make recommendations as to their approval
- Provide insights into supply risk and mitigation strategies.
- Supplier Management
- Maintain effective liaison with all departments to present alternatives offered by suppliers, modification of design, standardisation of products, parts or material, or other matters of mutual concern etc.
- Work with engineering/ maintenance and operations departments’ requests for components for new projects as required
- Conduct regular cost analysis exercise, supplier reviews, performance evaluations and updated product/vendor information.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
- Inventory & Logistics
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock levels in coordination with production planning.
- Work closely with other departments to forecast their needs and requirements to ensure timely deliveries at all times
- Obtain quotes, negotiate with vendors, source items with vendors, follow and expedite delivery,
- Assist departments in defining purchasing needs and resolving associated problems
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Qualifications,Competencies & Experience
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Degree Supply Chain Management
- Professional certifications in procurement or supply chain management (e.g., CIPS, CPSM) are advantageous
- Minimum 5+ years in a buying role, preferably in the manufacturing or mining sector, with at least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory level.
- Good knowledge of JD Edwards system is a Must
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in the use of MS Excel, MS Power-Point and MS Word
- National Driver’s license (Essential)
- Other Skills & Competencies
- Extensive knowledge of preferential procurement and supply chain best practices
- Good knowledge of South African legislation pertaining to Supply Chain management
- Strong negotiations and Analytical Skills,
- Excellent Planning and Organising Skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure,
- Good Communication and Interpersonal Skills.
