Introduction
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health and Safety Coordinator to join our dynamic team in the food manufacturing sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and food safety regulations, and fostering a strong safety culture across all departments.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and monitor Health and Safety policies and procedures in line with legislative requirements and company standards.
Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and workplace inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
Lead incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively.
Facilitate health and safety training and toolbox talks for staff and management.
Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act, Food Safety Standards (HACCP, ISO 22000, etc.), and internal safety protocols.
Maintain up-to-date safety documentation and records.
Liaise with management, staff, and external stakeholders (including auditors and regulatory bodies).
Promote employee awareness of safe work practices and continuous improvement in safety performance.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Grade 12 / Matric.
National Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a food manufacturing or processing environment.
Sound knowledge of OHS Act, Environmental Health, and Food Safety regulations.
Strong communication and reporting skills.
Computer literacy (MS Office, incident management systems).
Attention to detail with the ability to influence and drive a safety-first culture.
Advantageous
HACCP / ISO 45001 certification or exposure.
Experience in BRC or FSSC 22000 certified environments.
First Aid and Fire Marshal training
