Job Description
As a Financial Crime Systems & Analytics Deputy Manager, you will play a key role in safeguarding Shawbrook against financial crime risk while helping optimise our detection systems and controls. Working closely with the Financial Crime Systems & Analytics Manager, you will combine analytical expertise with financial crime knowledge to identify risks, detect emerging typologies and contribute to effective system strategies.
This is a highly analytical and hands-on role, where you will explore complex and sometimes unstructured datasets, applying creative problem-solving and pattern recognition skills to generate actionable insight. You will also help ensure our financial crime frameworks are efficient, compliant with regulatory expectations and continually adapted to the evolving external environment while maintaining a solid customer experience.
Key Role Responsibilities
- Conduct financial crime data analysis and investigations across a range of datasets, identifying suspicious activity, emerging typologies and systemic risks.
- Support configuration, testing and ongoing optimisation of financial crime systems (including fraud prevention, transaction monitoring and screening platforms).
- Develop and maintain management information dashboards and reporting packs, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and clear insight for senior stakeholders.
- Apply analytical tools and techniques (SQL, SAS, Python, Power BI etc.) to drive continuous improvement in financial crime detection and reduce false positives.
- Collaborate with 1st Line Financial Crime teams, 2nd Line Compliance, MLRO, Risk and IT to align system outputs with business needs and regulatory standards.
- Contribute to financial crime policy and framework updates, ensuring Shawbrook’s systems and processes remain aligned to FCA regulations, JMLSG (Joint Money Laundering Steering Group) guidance and wider best practice.
- Support risk-scoring, typology development and periodic reviews to strengthen Shawbrook’s risk-based approach to financial crime prevention.
- Provide meaningful input to governance materials, risk committees and project updates by translating technical findings into clear, actionable insight.
- Identify opportunities to automate reporting and streamline analysis processes, driving efficiency across the team.
- Provide peer support to colleagues and contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture.
- Deputise for the Financial Crime Systems & Analytics Manager as required, including overseeing day-to-day operations, staff supervision, and key decision-making.
- Provide leadership to the team (workload planning, coaching, 1:1s, performance feedback, recognition and wellbeing), fostering an inclusive, high‑performance culture.
Qualifications
Essential
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with large and sometimes unstructured datasets.
- Knowledge of financial crime principles (AML, Fraud, Sanctions, Terrorist Financing) and related regulatory frameworks (e.g. FCA, JMLSG, POCA, Bribery Act).
- Previous exposure to financial crime systems or transaction monitoring platforms.
- Experience with SQL and data handling, with the ability to translate findings into actionable insight.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and solid understanding of wider MS Office suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate complex issues clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate resilience and take ownership of tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong planning, organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A collaborative, team-oriented approach, with a professional and positive “can do” attitude.
Desirable
- Experience with Power BI and Python - highly desirable but trainable.
- Familiarity with SAS or similar statistical tools.
- Experience working in financial services or risk/analytics-related functions.
- Experience using AI tools (ranging from productivity solutions such as Microsoft Copilot to advanced models such as GPT) is highly desirable. We encourage candidates who are open to developing skills in this area, as Shawbrook actively embraces the use of AI to enhance efficiency and insight.
- Awareness of advanced methods such as anomaly detection, machine learning, or pattern-recognition techniques for identifying financial crime risks.
