Job Description
Please note, this is a Fixed Term Contract Until 31st December 2025.
Working hours are Monday - Friday, 12pm - 8pm.
This Shift Coordinator role will assist with managing the day-to-day operations and organisation of the laboratory ensuring samples are processed accurately, promptly and efficiently for required testing while maintaining high standards of compliance with Health and Safety, Quality Systems and Customer requirements.
- Assist the laboratory team and sample registration team on day-to-day operations.
- Ensuring that all samples are registered, prepared and subcontracted on time and with accurate information.
- Perform testing as required to ensure customer and operational needs are met.
- Release technical reports and daily results to the customers via LIMS and via emails.
- Manage subcontract workflow, contact sub-contract labs for results and ensure results are reported in lab LIMS system on a daily basis.
- Regularly check and assist lab team to deal with customer queries and complaints.
- Provide training and guidance to the junior staff as required. Participate in training programmes, undergo further training as required and participate in schemes to ensure ongoing competence and development of skills.
- Assist with thorough contract review of all work received and allocation of work on a daily basis to technicians assigned to the Department.
- Ensuring all documentation is completed on time, accurately and legibly, including incident reports, training sheets.
- Ensuring that Customer instructions are complied with and that correct and appropriate methodology is used at all time.
- Ensure that laboratory resources – equipment, materials and staff are properly used at all times.
- Ensure samples are received into the laboratory in accordance with documented procedures including attention to temperature control, storage preservation and prevention of cross-contamination (where relevant).
- Assist with daily planning of Departments workload to ensure customer deadlines are met and continually improve TATs.
- Responsible for ensuring equipment and facilities is in good working condition and communicate, in a timely manner, to the relevant departments when an issue arises.
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in Environmental Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or other relevant subject
- Previous experience working within an accredited contract testing laboratory or related industry laboratory environment are preferred but full training will be provided
- Good understanding of relevant quality system and accreditation requirements
- Good keyboards skills and experience of LIMS Systems, MS Office packages in particular Excel.
- Hard working self-motivated, disciplined, and professional team player
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, organise and co-ordinate your own workload.
- Ability to influence individuals where there isn’t a direct reporting line.
- Good written and verbal communication skills: including with international partners
