Job Description
Are you an engineer with a passion for interior systems and a strong background in design for manufacture (DFM)?
The Interior DFM team is responsible for reviewing and influencing design and engineering decisions to optimise quality, cost, and production timelines, ensuring that tomorrow’s vehicles can be manufactured efficiently and to the highest standard.
This position will provide specialist support on interior wood, instrument panel, and console systems, spanning the full programme lifecycle from early PF Gateways through to LH Gateways. You’ll contribute directly to critical DFM deliverables, guiding both design and manufacturing readiness.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Shape product concepts, styling, and part design by applying technical expertise, data analysis, and evidence-based recommendations, with a focus on interior wood, instrument panel, and console assemblies.
- Confirm assembly feasibility for critical interior systems at key project milestones, ensuring alignment with programme gateways.
- Carry out targeted studies to assess competing design concepts for interior components and provide input for concept selection.
- Deliver analysis to define the changes needed for feasible design solutions — covering product geometry, assembly methods, and facility requirements.
- Review and validate engineering drawings for interior parts and assemblies.
- Perform component-level analysis of new interior parts within specified release phases.
- Validate assembly sequences using tools such as DELMIA or Tecnomatix, referencing process documentation.
- Assess the vehicle build feasibility within DELMIA/Tecnomatix, using the full Bill of Materials.
- Maintain accurate reports, KPI dashboards, and virtual analysis records.
- Work closely with manufacturing feasibility engineers and DFM technical managers.
- Participate actively in DFM reviews, engineering design reviews, project meetings, concept workshops, and daily shift briefings.
