Specializing in ESIA studies, site investigations, and laboratory research, the company offers vital site supervision owners and lenders engineering services. Notably, Assystem in Türkiye plays a pivotal role in major projects like power generation, and the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant.
You will be part of a major infrastructure project involving the construction of a 67 km railway line with multiple sites, including depots, quarries, camp areas, and stockyards, conducted under international standards (IFC, EBRD, and Equator Principles).
Role Summary:
The OHS Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the effective management of occupational health and safety risks across the project sites. This role reports directly to the EHSS Manager and involves close coordination with subcontractors and construction supervisors.
Location: Çatalca / Çerkezköy, Istanbul.
This is a contract-based position and it will end in April 2026.
Job Description
- Oversee health and safety activities across construction sites, depots, quarries, and camps.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with OHS management systems and international lender standards (EBRD, AIIB, WB).
- Investigate accidents and incidents, conduct root cause analyses, and develop corrective actions.
- Attend site meetings, support pre-construction surveys, and ensure that safety considerations are integrated into all activities.
- Monitor contractors’ and subcontractors’ adherence to site-specific safety plans, project ESMS, and RAP requirements.
- Ensure the implementation of commitments under the Project ESIA.
- Manage and support grievance mechanisms related to OHS issues.
- Prepare regular reports on OHS performance for internal and external stakeholders.
- Foster a strong safety culture throughout the project teams.
Qualifications
- University degree in a relevant field (Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related discipline).
(A Master’s degree is a plus.) - Recognized international safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) or equivalent.
- Fluency in English and Turkish (written and spoken).
Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in construction safety management, preferably on large-scale linear infrastructure projects (including tunneling).
- Proven experience implementing and monitoring OHS mitigation measures in accordance with international lender standards (especially EBRD, AIIB, WB).
- Practical knowledge and successful application of EBRD’s health and safety requirements.
- Experience working on railway projects is highly desirable.
- Ability to undertake frequent site visits and operate effectively in a dynamic construction environment.
