Introduction

The Junior Engineer role will be to support the Contract Engineer and the broader Engineering Team in the successful delivery of Cape Town and Johannesburg based projects for Combustion Technology.
The Junior Engineer will be responsible for assisting with the engineering, administration, documentation, quality control, logistics, and other project-related functions required of him/her. These are to be carried out efficiently and to a high standard. This role is designed as an entry to mid level role to provide professional development by means of hands-on experience, mentorship and guidance - with the ultimate aim of progressing the Junior Engineer into a position of greater responsibility within the company’s engineering department.
The successful candidate will be reporting to the Contracts Engineer.

Duties & Responsibilities
Contract Management (70%)
- Assist the Contract Engineer with all tasks related to contract management.
- Draft layout, P&ID, and project drawings as required.
- Manage and complete smaller day-to-day contract-related tasks.
- Assisting in collating and maintain all project documentation, ensuring folders and files are up to date.
- Assist in drafting, formatting, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other contract-related documentation to support consistent project execution.
- Collect site reports and documents from the field team and integrate them into project records.
- Compile final data packs for approval.
- Support engineering tasks across all project stages.
- Provide administrative and documentation support, maintaining accurate and complete records.
- Support quality control activities, including inspections, compliance checks, and reporting.
- Assist in managing logistics for project-related equipment, materials, and site requirements.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth project execution.
- Contribute to other aspects of project delivery as required by the Contract Engineer or Engineering Manager.
Field Service Team Support (15%)
- Shadow Service Technicians to gain practical understanding of the technical aspects of boilers, burners, and associated systems, as well as installation and commissioning processes.
- Assist in drafting, formatting, and maintaining documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), site reports, timesheets, service schedules, and other field-related records.
- Review, interpret, and provide feedback or approval on site-related documentation, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with company and industry standards.
- Support the preparation of job packs, ensuring technicians have all required drawings, documentation, and materials prior to site work.
- Help coordinate scheduling and logistics for field service activities, including equipment, tools, and transport.
- Assist in maintaining communication with the Field Service Team to track progress, address issues, and ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Collate field data, test results, and feedback from technicians for reporting to the Engineering Team and Contract Engineer.
- Assist in monitoring service quality, safety compliance, and adherence to customer requirements during site activities.
- Participate in debrief sessions after site visits to capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of field processes.
Administration & Reporting (15%)
- Assist in ensuring the overall cohesiveness of the Engineering Department by supporting coordination and communication between team members and other departments.
- Provide assistance where required in activities related to finance, stores, and procurement to facilitate smooth project and operational workflows.
- Assist in preparing, formatting, and maintaining general administrative documentation, ensuring information is accurate, complete, and accessible.
- Support the preparation of project and departmental reports, including progress updates, performance metrics, and compliance records.
- Assist with data entry, tracking, and analysis for departmental and project-related activities.
- Liaise with other departments to ensure timely sharing of information and reporting deliverables
Desired Experience & Qualification
QUALIFICATIONS
- B.Sc. or B.Eng. Mechanical; Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering (advantageous).
- B.Tech or N.Dip in Mechanical; Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering.
EXPERIENCE
- Entry Level - No prior work experience needed.
- 1 – 4 years’ experience in an engineering position (advantageous).
- Project Management Experience (advantageous)
KNOWLEDGE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- High Proficiency in Computer Literacy: Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity/Experience with CAD/Drawing software.
- MS Projects / Project Related Software (advantageous).
- Drivers Licence ; Own transport.
