Introduction
The Registered Nurse is responsible for diagnosing health requirements and providing medical care, health support, and emotional well-being services to estate residents. The role includes administering prescribed treatments, monitoring residents' health, and ensuring their well-being through assessments, follow-ups, and active engagement in health promotion activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Medical Care and Health Support

Provide medical care and health support to estate residents in houses and flats.

Build and maintain strong relationships with residents.
-
Offer emotional support where needed and applicable.
-
Conduct clinic visiting hours for residents.
-
Administer treatment, wound care, or medication as prescribed by a registered practitioner.

Monitor residents' vital signs and responses to medical conditions, stress, trauma, and treatments.

Assess residents’ well-being and determine the need for specialized nursing care, including home care, assisted living, or frail care.

Collaborate with the Estate Social Worker to maintain awareness of residents' medical and emotional status.

Educate and counsel residents and family members on disease prevention, health maintenance, and hygiene.

Encourage exercise, rest, sleep, and proper nutrition for healing and rehabilitation.

Perform follow-ups on:

Reported incidents
-
Issues raised by frail care nursing staff

Hospital and doctor visits, where applicable

Family concerns regarding residents' physical and emotional health
-
Promote active lifestyle programs in coordination with the Social Worker.

Provide services such as:
-
Medication evaluation and advice
-
Monitoring of blood pressure, pulse, temperature, blood glucose, respiration, and weight

Administration of injections (as prescribed by a doctor)

Basic wound care and dressing changes
-
Removal of sutures/clips as per doctor’s request
-
Collection of blood or urine samples for testing
-
Urine dipstick tests
-
Ear syringing
Evaluation of Potential and Current Residents
Record Keeping and Documentation
-
Develop and maintain an efficient electronic and paper-based record-keeping system.
-
Keep updated records of protocols, master documents, and reporting systems.
-
Maintain filing and archiving systems.
-
Document residents' medical monitoring records, including:
-
Vital sign observations (blood pressure, pulse, glucose, temperature, etc.)
-
Wound care
-
Injections and medication administration
-
Daily resident visits (clinic or home-based)
-
Review and follow-up on daily reports
Emergency Support
-
Respond to and manage medical emergencies during working hours (08h00 - 16h00).

Educate residents about the estate’s panic button system and ensure its functionality.

Establish a system for house key availability in emergency situations, in consultation with Frail Care.

Ensure that residents’ Personal Emergency Information documentation is readily accessible.
-
Participate in estate emergency drills and exercises.

Communication Skills:Proficiency in Afrikaans and English (written and oral).
