Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Source, negotiate, and procure technical materials, equipment, and services for efficient plant operation.
- Build and nurture productive supplier and stakeholder relationships.
- Manage the full lifecycle of MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) purchasing — drive both cost efficiency and asset longevity.
- Lead warehousing operations, stock management, and optimize inventory for plant reliability.
- Translate complex technical specs and requirements into robust supply solutions.
- Ensure compliance with strict procurement regulations (Public Finance Management Act knowledge a plus).
- Prepare RFQs, manage tenders, evaluate supplier performance, and resolve supply chain issues rapidly.
- Track procurement metrics, report on KPIs, and lead cost-reduction initiatives.
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers for technical goods and services.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers to ensure cost-effective purchasing.
- Manage supplier relationships and monitor supplier performance.
- Ensure all purchases meet the company's quality and technical specifications.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to understand technical requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier performance.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements.
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies to optimise cost and efficiency.
- Resolve any issues or discrepancies with suppliers and deliveries.
- Conduct market research to identify new suppliers and products.
- Coordinate with warehouse team to ensure timely delivery of goods.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education: Degree or Diploma in Technical Management or Supply Chain (or related qualification).
Experience: 3+ years’ MRO purchasing experience with a proven track record in lifecycle/TCO management.
- Strong understanding of technical specifications and requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of industry trends and advancements.
- Experience with contract management and supplier performance evaluation.
- Experience with SAP Materials Management - Essential.
Procurement Knowledge: Strong understanding of inbound logistics and procurement regulations; PFMA familiarity is advantageous.
Warehousing: Demonstrated experience in complex, pragmatic stock management and warehousing operations.
Technical Skills: Comfortable sourcing and securing technical commodities and services (pumps, valves, motors, instrumentation, electrical spares, Siemens turbine/generator spares, heat tracing, pressure vessel inspections, long-term service agreements, etc.).
Soft Skills:
- Highly skilled at building and maintaining effective, productive relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders.
- Strong negotiator with exceptional communication, interpersonal, and influencing abilities.
- Analytical, numerically, and technically astute; proven strength in problem identification and solution delivery.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proactive and self-motivated.
- Strong ethical standards and integrity.
