Company Description
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.
Job Description
Introduction
In this role you will support the maintenance and operation of the ATLAS superconducting magnets. Furthermore, you will support R&D efforts for the benefit of present and future superconducting detector magnets.
Key Tasks
- Join a team of experts who ensure the smooth operation of the ATLAS superconducting magnets, as well as various other superconducting detector magnets at CERN.
- Prepare maintenance works for the annual end-of-the-year maintenance period and the long shutdown periods, and execute these works, typically in a hands-on capacity.
- Contribute to Research and Development of technologies for superconducting detector magnets and associated technologies through the CERN Experimental Physics R&D programme.
- Contribute to the education of the new generation of students and graduates in the field of superconducting detector magnet technology.
