Pele Green Energy is seeking a talented, highly motivated, and self-driven SCADA Engineer to join its Engineering division. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, the SCADA Engineer will be responsible for drafting and reviewing technical documentation, diagnosing and resolving system issues, overseeing and approving SCADA and related system designs, and overseeing and managing the implementation of SCADA solutions across all phases of the project life cycle.
Some of your key tasks will include but not be limited to:
- Managing and ensuring compliance with all SCADA requirements for photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and wind power plants.
- Drafting of Technical documentation, including requirement specifications, design specifications, configuration manuals, maintenance and troubleshooting guides, and training materials.
- Offer technical guidance and expertise to both internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with industry standards, best practices, and system requirements.
- Engage and collaborate with consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure seamless and compliant execution of all SCADA and related activities, adhering to industry standards and best practices.
- Conduct design reviews for SCADA systems, evaluating network architectures, equipment integration capabilities, and cybersecurity measures to ensure system reliability, compliance, and optimal performance.
- Examine and interpret technical drawings such as wiring diagrams, layouts, and schematics, including single-line diagrams (SLD) and control circuits, to assess system functionality, ensure design accuracy, and optimize electrical configurations
- Assess the SCADA infrastructure at brownfield sites, identifying vulnerabilities and performance gaps. Develop remediation strategies to enhance data continuity, cybersecurity, and seamless interoperability with the head office network.
- Ensure that contractual schedules and payment milestones are met by overseeing the preparation, compilation, and tracking of project deliverables, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with project requirements
- Deliver engineering support for the SCADA/Plant Performance system at the head office, ensuring seamless asset integration while adhering to business best practices for efficiency, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance
- Provide support and actively witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) to verify system functionality, compliance, and performance, ensuring seamless integration and operational readiness.
- Offer support to site teams, ensuring operational efficiency and alignment with business objectives, while facilitating seamless SCADA system integration and troubleshooting.
Knowledge Skill Set
- SCADA System Proficiency: Proficiency in supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- RTU/Gateway/PLC Programming: Familiarity with IEC61131 ladder logic, structured text, and function block diagrams for automation.
- Expertise in serial communication protocols, interface selection, and converter configuration.
- Database Management: Working knowledge of SQL, NoSQL, and Time-Series Databases for data storage and retrieval.
- Scripting & Coding: Ability to write scripts in Python, C++, Java, or Visual Basic for automation tasks.
- Industrial Protocols: Understanding of Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 60870-5-101, MQTT and OPC UA/DA for device communication.
- SCADA Protocol Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving issues within SCADA communication protocols
- Network Architecture: Designing and maintaining redundant, high-availability industrial networks.
- IP Address Management and Network Configuration: Expertise in IP address management (IPAM), subnetting, and network configuration.
- Cybersecurity Measures: Implementing firewalls, IDS/IPS, and Zero Trust endpoint protection to secure SCADA environments.
- Expertise in VPN configuration, secure remote access, and encryption protocols.
- Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Identifying and resolving network latency, packet loss, and communication failures.
- Server Administration and Virtualization Expertise: Expertise in server administration, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure deployment.

- Commissioning Expertise: Prior experience in the commissioning of SCADA systems for photovoltaic (PV) (preferred), battery energy storage systems (BESS) (optional), and wind energy projects.
- Regulatory and Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations, including IEEE, IEC, SANS, and other applicable frameworks.
- SCADA System Proficiency: Experience working with market-leading SCADA systems.
