General Dynamics in St Leonards-on-Sea currently provide avionic mission computing systems for a wide range of military fast jets, helicopters, and UAV’s. Recent success has resulted in General Dynamics developing the next generation of Advanced High Performance, Safety Critical Mission Computer Systems to meet the needs of latest platforms in development by several aircraft manufacturers. These Mission Computing Systems provide the functionality that integrates aircraft systems, sensor systems and stores management systems with the information and control systems required by the aircrew to meet the demanding operational needs of these aircraft.
Job Description
This role is for a Senior Reliability, Maintainability and Testability Engineer to work within our avionics product development teams, developing a range of product solutions to meet the needs of new and advanced avionic platforms.
The RM&T Engineer will support the development of models to quantify product and system performance and make recommendations to optimise reliability and availability, whilst balancing cost considerations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Estimate the reliability of a system in its intended use environment and document the results in the reliability assessment report.
- Conduct FMEA - Identify potential system failures, assess their impact, and document findings with risk prioritization.
- Evaluate Built-In Test (BIT) Effectiveness - Assess how well the system detects and isolates faults, including detection coverage and false alarm rates.
- Assess Maintainability - Determine if the system supports aircraft maintenance needs, focusing on repair time, accessibility, and tooling.
- Develop and Execute Reliability Tests - Create test plans, run reliability trials, and document results to validate system performance over time.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will ideally have:
- Ability to develop Product, Software and System level Reliability Predictions using industry standard techniques
- Ability to undertake FMECA at system, hardware and software levels
- Good understanding of Reliability Centered Maintenance and the derivation of preventative maintenance tasks
- Proficiency in Reliability concepts and techniques, e.g. Fault Tree, Reliability Block Diagrams
- Proficiency in the use of MATLAB or equivalent modelling software
Additional Information
This role has a starting salary of between £45,600 and £57,000 plus our flexible benefits package.
We are open to this role being spent with time working from home and in the office - typically a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
