We are on the hunt for a curious and tenacious individual to join the Orion Health Madrid team as a Database Administrator!
As a Database Administrator, you will apply database administration best practices, sound engineering principles, operational discipline, and automation expertise to keep databases supporting mission-critical, clinician and citizen-facing solutions running smoothly all day, every day.

What will you be doing?
- Managing and optimising client databases, ensuring availability, reliability, stability, and performance across multiple customer solutions.
- Analysing solutions and implementing industry best practices for managed customer database instances.
- Designing and implementing proactive monitoring and observability of key database metrics.
- Monitoring the health and performance of database systems and responding promptly to alerts and incidents.
- Collaborating with peer SREs to roll out application upgrades and changes in production environments.
- Diagnosing, mitigating, and resolving database-related incidents during business and on-call hours.
- Participating in post-incident analysis, identifying root causes, and implementing preventative measures.
- Designing and delivering optimisations, automation, and continuous improvements to database infrastructure.
- Contributing to capacity planning and scalability initiatives to ensure database resources meet demand while optimising for cost.
- Documenting changes and learnings to create repeatable, proactive processes.
- Staying current with industry best practices and emerging technologies to continuously enhance database reliability.
- Designing, testing, and implementing database archiving, backup, and disaster recovery policies and processes.
What will you bring?
Skills:
- Strong Microsoft SQL Server skills including architecture, administration and performance tuning
- Good understanding of data management principles. Proven experience with SQL HA and DR technologies
- Exceptional troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills. Competent in writing and refactoring SQL queries
- Intermediate or higher level cloud skills - AWS preferred
- A proactive, continuous improvement mindset. When you see something broken, you can’t help but fix it.
Preferred:
- Intermediate or higher scripting and automation skills
- Knowledge of other RDBMS (Oracle, Postgres, etc.) is desirable
Experience:
- To be successful in this role, you will have 5+ years of experience in RDBMS database administration or database administration, in large mission-critical production environments.
